![]() So much of the zoo felt “off” that I wonder if anyone has the scoop about what’s going on there. In my experience, when employees act so completely “over it” it’s often because they’re being unappreciated, underpaid, un-listened to and mismanaged. The whole place seemed so overwhelmingly geared at selling: food, t-shirts, estate planning (I’m not kidding, they have a booth for that), time shares, etc. The workers seemed to have that classic, jaded, “DMV” attitude. We went to the LA Zoo yesterday (my first time in about 20 years) and the vibe was Rough. Usually they involve drinking heavily, but sometimes we get more creative. It took about 2-3 hours to go through, for some of the exhibits were closed.WARNING: /r/LosAngeles contains rules and users known to the State of California to cause cancer. So after all this mess, it was still worth it for the zoo was very nice to go through with the plants, animals and statues. We then took our tickets to this lady and she asked what time were our tickets and I let her know, no time was mentioned, so she stated go on in. It was 41.00 for 1 senior and 1 adult, not a bad price. We got to the other window and the lady stated they were not honoring memberships from other zoos, if I wanted to go in I would have to pay, so we did. We got in line and waited our turn, when we were told, if we had member tickets we had to go to a different line, so we did, then that man stated we had to go to a window and talk to that person, for we were not LA Zoo members, so we did and then that person referred us to another person, who stated he could not sell tickets and we had to go to another window. We got lost a couple of times trying to get there, but made it with about 15 minutes to spare. It told me all were free, just order them on line, with your date and time, so I did. We are AZA members, so I asked it's A I chat about the price of tickets and how to get them. I got online to find out where and how we get tickets to it. We like to visit zoos in other states and cities, so we decided to visit this one. If they feel like that, they will leave reviews like this one. Yes, the park need to find ways to get money to support the operation.but not in a way that has its customers leaving feeling they had been cheated. The soft serve ice cream in a plastic cup was a single golf ball size scoop which was some how scooped to be hollow but appearing to be a soild scoop. A pint can of water should not cost $5.49. ![]() ![]() BUT the prices for the limited "refreshments" make the prices at the airport seem cheap. I know that fiscal challenges must be VERY difficult and that management is looking for income sources. Careful examination of the maps did appear to have glue residue in spots leading me to think that perhaps "You are here" stickers may have been peeled off.Īll of the above, to me, just leads to a need to do some re-imagining to tired ideas. Unfortunately, the maps did not have the "You are here" markers which was clearly recognized by people trying to find out where to go. ![]() Site maps are strategically placed throughout the park. Most were either alone or accompanied by one equally unhappy specimen. Most of the animals looked like I guess I would if I was in their environment. Few, how ever, actually had any indication that any work was in progress. Although I did not actually count, it appeared that upwards of 1/3 of the animal areas were closed or reportedly under renovation. We (2 adults, 2 teen boys and a 3 year old boy) spent about 4 hours on Sunday(10/9/22). The zoo has potential, but also needs help. ![]()
